What are aftermarket parts?
Q-Part Certification refers to parts that have been certified by one of the major independent automotive parts certification groups, such as CAPA, Thatcham, TÜV Rheinland or E-Mark. Parts that are labelled Q-Part Certified are produced for your make and model for OE equivalence fit, form and function and then verified at all production levels (design, material, and construction). Q-Part Certified parts are sold with markings and branding that aligns with the parts manufacturer.
For instance, you could order the Q-Part Certified version of the headlight assembly to suit your Volkswagen. You would receive a headlight assembly in TYC packaging and the part itself will have TYC markings. TYC manufacture the part to meet OEM fit, form and function and the Q-Part Certification process ensures an independent body verifies the quality.
Q-Part Certified parts meet OEM fit, form and function, and are backed by independent review for the best quality at the best price.
Aftermarket parts refer to parts that have been manufactured to meet OEM fit, form and function by the parts manufacturer. Aftermarket parts are sold with markings and branding that align with the parts manufacturer.
Aftermarket parts are built to meet OEM fit, form and function, but the manufacturer has chosen to verify the quality with an internal quality assurance process. The independent verification process increases the manufacturing expense of the product. This means that parts internally quality assured by the parts manufacturer can be significantly cheaper than Genuine parts.
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, referring to vehicle manufacturers such as Nissan, Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, and Renault for example. Parts that are labelled as OEM are parts produced for, or by the OEM, and sold with markings and branding that aligns with the vehicle manufacturer.
For example, if you order an OEM/Genuine headlight assembly for your Volkswagen, you will receive a headlight assembly in the Volkswagen branded box, and the part itself will have Volkswagen branding. These products will be as originally fitted to your vehicle when it rolled off the factory assembly line.
OES stands for Original Equipment Supplier, referring to part manufacturers such as Hella, Valeo, Sachs, NGK, Bosch and others. Parts that are labelled as OES are parts produced for the OEM (Nissan, Ford etc) but are sold with the markings and branding that aligns with the parts manufacturer.
For example let’s say you’re looking for a Volkswagen headlight assembly. If you ordered an OES version of a headlight assembly, you’ll receive a headlight assembly in a branded Hella box, and the part itself will have Hella branding. Hella is the OES of Volkswagen’s OEM parts, so by ordering OES you are receiving the same quality part as OEM, without OEM branding.
